Story of Someone Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Changing In My Mouth” – tongue cancer survival rates
I can’t sleep.
My mind strolls with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with stage 3 tongue cancer. The sizing of my tongue cancer is sizing 2, as far as oral cancer becomes it is pretty small.
They are announcing it a stage 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all executioners if left unchecked for to long. Due to the spot they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be get 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy once a week but it will be in such a low quantity that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent mirrors or a scope) radiation is no other course of action.
Tongue cancer is a exceedingly invasive cancer. It exhausts the muscle and material. It doesn’t really grow on top of the material it eats the material. It is announced squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a description of squamous cell from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cells: Flat cadres that look like fish flakes. The name “squamous” came from the Latin squama meaning” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cells. They make up most of the cells in the outer blanket of the scalp( the epidermis ), the excerpts of the respiratory and digestive parcels, and the liners of the hollow parts of their own bodies. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( point)
Because of its invasive quality tongue cancer consumes important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy they will be killing the tissue that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors been mentioned that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow awfully soft meat and liquid.
But as for snacking until then, in a few days from now I am get a feeding tube inserted into my stomach. I will be dining adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad tissues will also be killing a lot of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning 5 days a week for 7 weeks.
My cancer doctors tell me that I will loose all the skin on the outside of my cervix where the radioactivity beams are centralized much like a sun scorch that will blister up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore causing a large raw meat arena on my neck that I will have to keep a heavy seam of salve on.
At some degree in the next marry weeks I will be going a subcutaneous embed for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue will be raw equal to many sun sunburns as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat tissue swells to the spot where they are unable no longer breath properly.
This all sounds gruesome and I am sure that it will be extremely painful and closer to intolerable.
However the alternative is no treatment which will guarantee extinction within 6-10 months.
So I see I can take the suffering, medical doctors promised they would save me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can accomplish this management.( my berths may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be announcing almost daily with my progression, supposes, beliefs and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am documenting this horrible wander so that maybe some of the readers will come to this understanding……I inhaled cigarettes for 25 years, I munched a little tobacco, I drank my fair share of booze, all of these are directly related to cavity cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, only perhaps, a few people will read and follow along with me on this outing and quit smoking, chewing, imbibing overly and cleaning process “peoples lives” so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey embarks ………..
