Tale of Someone Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Growing In My Mouth” – tongue cancer surgery
I can’t sleep.
My mind saunters with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with stage 3 tongue cancer. The length of my tongue cancer is length 2, as much as is oral cancer travels it is pretty small.
They are announcing it a stage 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all gunmen if left unchecked for to long. Due to the location they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be coming 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy once a few weeks but it will be in such a low dosage that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent reflects or a scope) radioactivity is the only course of action.
Tongue cancer is a particularly invasive cancer. It downs the muscle and tissue. It doesn’t only change on top of the tissue it depletes the material. It is called squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a definition of squamous cell from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cadres: Flat cells that look like fish flakes. The statement “squamous” came from the Latin squama meaning” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cells. They make up most of the cells in the outer layer of the surface( the epidermis ), the excerpts of the respiratory and digestive regions, and the liners of the hollow organs of their own bodies. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( aspiration)
Because of its invasive sort tongue cancer consumes important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy they will be killing the tissue that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors been mentioned that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow very soft nutrients and liquid.
But as for snacking until then, in a few days from now I am getting a feeding tube inserted into my tummy. I will be dining adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad tissues will too be killing a lot of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning five days a few weeks for 7 weeks.
My cancer doctors tell me that I will release all the skin on the outside of my cervix where the radioactivity beams are centralized much like a sun incense that they are able to blister up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore effecting a large raw flesh area on my neck that I will have to keep a heavy blanket of liniment on.
At some pitch in the next marry weeks I will be going a subcutaneous implant for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue will be raw equivalent to that given to numerous sunbathe burns as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat material swells to the quality where they can no longer breath properly.
This all sounds gruesome and I am sure that it will be extremely unpleasant and closer to intolerable.
However the alternative is no therapy which will guarantee fatality within 6-10 months.
So I anticipate I can take the grief, medical doctors predicted they would remain me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can accomplish this therapy.( my uprights may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be posting almost daily with my advancement, supposes, feelings and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am substantiating this terrible wander so that maybe some of the books will come to this understanding……I inhaled cigarettes for 25 times, I ruminated a little tobacco, I drank my fair share of alcohol, all of these are directly related to lip cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, merely maybe, a few people will read and follow together with me on this tour and quit smoking, chewing, sucking overly and cleaning process their lives so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey inaugurates ………..
