Narrative of Someone Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Growing In My Mouth” – tongue cancer staging
I can’t sleep.
My mind ambles with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with stage 3 tongue cancer. The immensity of my tongue cancer is length 2, as much as is oral cancer becomes it is pretty small.
They are calling it a stage 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all gunmen if left rampant for to long. Due to the location they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be getting 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy once a week but it will be in such a low-toned dosage that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent reflects or a remit) radioactivity is no other course of action.
Tongue cancer is a particularly invasive cancer. It devours the muscle and material. It doesn’t simply ripen on top of the tissue it consumes the material. It is called squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a description of squamous cell from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cells: Flat cells that look like fish scales. The term “squamous” came from the Latin squama meaning” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cadres. They make up the majority of members of the cadres in the outer seam of the surface( the epidermis ), the passages of the respiratory and digestive treatises, and the linings of the hollow organs of the body. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( tip)
Because of its invasive quality tongue cancer devours important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy they will be killing the tissue that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors been mentioned that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow awfully soft nutrients and liquid.
But as for chewing until then, in a few days from now I am going a feeding tube inserted into my stomach. I will be gobbling adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad tissues will also be killing a lot of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning five days a week for 7 weeks.
My cancer physicians tell me that I will liberate all the skin on the outside of my cervix where the radiation beams are center much like a sun burn that will swell up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore justification a large raw meat expanse on my cervix that I will have to keep a ponderous stratum of liniment on.
At some spot in the next marry weeks I will be getting a subcutaneous embed for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue is likely to be raw equivalent to that given to countless sunbathe blazes as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat material swells to the degree where they are unable no longer gulp properly.
This all sounds gruesome and I am sure that it will be extremely agonizing and very close to intolerable.
However the alternative is no management which will guarantee extinction within 6-10 months.
So I envisage I can take the sting, medical doctors predicted they are able to continue me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can accomplish this management.( my affixes may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be affixing almost daily with my change, supposes, sentimentalities and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am substantiating this horrible journey so that maybe some of the books will come to this understanding……I smoked cigarettes for 25 times, I chewed a little tobacco, I suck my fair share of booze, all of these are directly related to cavity cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, only maybe, a few people will read and follow together with me on this jaunt and stop smoking, chewing, drinking excessively and cleaning process their lives so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey inaugurates ………..
