Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Proliferating In My Mouth”
I can’t sleep.
My mind ambles with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with theatre 3 tongue cancer. The sizing of my tongue cancer is immensity 2, as far as oral cancer vanishes it is pretty small.
They are announcing it a stagecoach 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all killers if left rampant for to long. Due to the point they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be going 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy formerly a few weeks but it will be in such a low-grade dosage that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent reflects or a scope) radioactivity is the only course of action.
Tongue cancer is a exceedingly invasive cancer. It ingests the muscle and tissue. It doesn’t really grow on top of the tissue it eats the material. It is called squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a explanation of squamous cadre from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cells: Flat cells that look like fish proportions. The oath “squamous” came from the Latin squama entail” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cells. They make up most of the cells in the outer coating of the surface( the epidermis ), the sections of the respiratory and digestive plots, and the liners of the hollow parts of their own bodies. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( boundary)
Because of its invasive nature tongue cancer spends important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy they will be killing the tissue that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors tell me that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow terribly soft foods and liquid.
But as for munching until then, in a few epoches from now I am going a feeding tube inserted into my tummy. I will be snacking adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad materials will also be killing a good deal of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning 5 days a week for 7 weeks.
My cancer physicians tell me that I will loose all the skin on the outside of my neck where the radiation beams are concentrated lots like a daylight sunburn that they are able to swell up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore motiving a large fresh flesh area on my neck that I will have to keep a heavy mantle of salve on.
At some place in the next marry weeks I will be going a subcutaneous implant for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue will be fresh equivalent to that given to numerous sun flames as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat material swells to the point where they can no longer breather properly.
This all reverberates terrible and I am sure that it will be extremely unpleasant and very close to intolerable.
However the alternative is no management which is guaranteed under extinction within 6-10 months.
So I ponder I can take the agony, medical doctors predicted they are able to maintain me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can complete this medicine.( my affixes may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be posting almost daily with my change, concludes, sympathies and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am substantiating this horrible jaunt so that maybe some of the readers will come to this understanding……I smoked cigarettes for 25 times, I chewed a little tobacco, I drank my fair share of booze, all of these are directly related to mouth cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, simply maybe, a few people will read and follow along with me on this outing and quit smoking, chewing, imbibing too and clean up “peoples lives” so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey originates ………..
