Narrative of Someone Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Thriving In My Mouth” – how is tongue cancer treated
I can’t sleep.
My mind walks with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a duet weeks ago with stage 3 tongue cancer. The width of my tongue cancer is immensity 2, as far as oral cancer goes it is pretty small.
They are announcing it a stage 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all executioners if left rampant for to long. Due to the location they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be going 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy once a week but it will be in such a low dosage that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent mirrors or a scope) radiation is no other course of action.
Tongue cancer is a extremely invasive cancer. It consumes the muscle and material. It doesn’t time change on top of the material it ingests the tissue. It is called squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a definition of squamous cell from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cadres: Flat cells that look like fish flakes. The text “squamous” came from the Latin squama meaning” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cadres. They make up the majority of members of the cadres in the outer coating of the skin( the epidermis ), the transitions of the respiratory and digestive treatises, and the linings of the hollow parts of their own bodies. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( resolve)
Because of its invasive sort tongue cancer consumes important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy they will be killing the material that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors been mentioned that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow extremely soft meat and liquid.
But as for feeing until then, in a few days from now I am coming a feeding tube inserted into my gut. I will be gobbling adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad tissues will also be killing a lot of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning five days a week for 7 weeks.
My cancer physicians tell me that I will liberate all the skin on the outside of my neck where the radioactivity beams are concentrated lots like a sunbathe feeling that they are able to swell up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore justification a large raw flesh domain on my neck that I will have to keep a heavy blanket of salve on.
At some station in the next duet weeks I will be going a subcutaneous implant for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue is likely to be raw equal to countless sunshine burns as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat material swells to the place where they can no longer wheeze properly.
This all sounds gruesome and I am sure that it will be extremely pain and closer to intolerable.
However the alternative is no care which will ensure death within 6-10 months.
So I recollect I can take the anguish, medical doctors predicted they would restrain me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can accomplish this treatment.( my berths may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be affixing almost daily with my change, dreams, tenderness and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am documenting this terrible outing so that maybe some of the readers will come to this understanding……I inhaled cigarettes for 25 times, I chewed a little tobacco, I booze my fair share of alcohol, all of these are directly related to cheek cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, precisely maybe, a few people will read and follow along with me on this pilgrimage and stop smoking, chewing, drinking excessively and cleaning process “peoples lives” so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey originates ………..
