Tongue Cancer,” A Killer Stretching In My Mouth”
I can’t sleep.
My mind saunters with the things that are to come.
I was diagnosed a couple weeks ago with stage 3 tongue cancer. The sizing of my tongue cancer is immensity 2, as much as is oral cancer goes it is pretty small.
They are calling it a place 3 because it has spread into one lymph gland so far. I had that gland removed and that’s when they found the carcinoma.
Mouth cancer, oral cancer, esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer are all killers if left rampant for to long. Due to the place they are extremely hard to operate on and the
tissue they are growing in is very delicate.( oh yea, and very necessary !)
What’s in store for me now is very difficult for me to comprehend.
I will be get 7 weeks of radiation therapy Monday-Friday, each morning.
I will get chemotherapy formerly a week but it will be in such a low-pitched dose that I will not loose my hair.
Do to the location of my tongue cancer which is at the base of the tongue( can not be seen without bent reflects or a scope) radiation is no other course of action.
Tongue cancer is a very invasive cancer. It depletes the muscle and tissue. It doesn’t time grow on top of the material it devours the material. It is called squamous cell carcinoma.
Here is a description of squamous cadre from http :// www.medterms.com;
Definition of Squamous cells
Squamous cells: Flat cadres that look like fish flakes. The statement “squamous” came from the Latin squama mean” the scale of a fish or serpent .”
We have a lot of squamous cadres. They make up most of the cadres in the outer bed of the skin( the epidermis ), the channels of the respiratory and digestive lots, and the liners of the hollow parts of the body. We are more fish- like( or serpent-like) than we may think.( outcome)
Because of its invasive nature tongue cancer exhausts important muscle mass at the back of the tongue. Through radiation therapy this is gonna be killing the material that is infected with the carcinoma, thus killing half of the muscles on the back of my tongue.
The doctors tell me that after 6-8 months I should be able to swallow awfully soft meat and liquid.
But as for feeing until then, in a few days from now I am coming a feeding tube inserted into my tummy. I will be dining adult formula through a tube for the next 6 months.
The radiation will be killing my thyroid gland, I will have to take medicine every day for it for the rest of my life.
The radiation exposure while killing the bad tissues will likewise be killing a lot of good tissues.
The process will be similar to a second degree sunburn every morning 5 days a week for 7 weeks.
My cancer physicians tell me that I will release all the skin on the outside of my cervix where the radiation beams are concentrated often like a sunlight blaze that will swell up every day with each new treatment.
Therefore motiving a large fresh meat arena on my neck that I will have to keep a heavy bed of liniment on.
At some spot in the next couple weeks I will be coming a subcutaneous embed for a morphine drip.
The tissues inside the throat area and back of the tongue is likely to be fresh equivalent to that given to many sunshine ignites as well.
They said some people have to have a tracheotomy because their throat material swells to the point where they can no longer sigh properly.
This all seems horrendous and I am sure that it will be extremely distressing and closer to intolerable.
However the alternative is no medication which will guarantee demise within 6-10 months.
So I anticipate I can take the tendernes, my doctors predicted they would retain me “snowed” for as long as needed so that I can complete this management.( my berths may get slurred !)
As this tongue cancer process develops I shall be affixing almost daily with my develop, recalls, apprehensions and medical evaluations.
I am not doing this blog for your pity.
I am documenting this horrible excursion so that maybe some of the readers will come to this understanding……I smoked cigarettes for 25 times, I munched a little tobacco, I drank my fair share of booze, all of these are directly related to lip cancer, tongue cancer, oral cancer,
esophageal cancer and thyroid cancer.
Maybe, just maybe, a few people will read and follow along with me on this excursion and stop smoking, chewing, drinking excessively and clean up “peoples lives” so they will not have to
go through this.
The journey begins ………..
