I made up the word dancetestants…I like it, maybe it will end up in the Urban Dictionary! On with the show…

Each dancer will be performing twice this evening and we are told by Cat that Ashley injured herself on Monday and will not be able to dance tonight. Ashley will automatically go into the bottom three. We also get an update from Alex – he had surgery on Monday and is still in the hospital. The doctors say that he is recovering well and hopefully he is on the mend.

We see the dancetestants (I am going to make it work) choose their All-Star and then choose one of the other dancers. Looks like there are some good mixes in there – Jose picks last and gets a “gold star” which basically means he gets to dance his own style (B-Boy) with Dominic.

First up a new dance style…when Lauren chose it they called it cultural – but now they are telling us that the culture is Tahitian.

Lauren and Mark – Tahitian (Jungle – Last Voices) – new style, new choreographer – Tiana Liufau. I’m intrigued. Night and Day (hope that it is not craptastic as the Tom Cruise debacle)…I guess this dance is very reminiscent of the Hawaiian “hula” to my un-trained eyes, but the feathers and the rapid beat made it more like a hula on crack! It was quite fun.

AdéChiké and Anya – Salsa (Oyelo Que Te Conviene – Eddie Palmieri) – more new choreographers (Liz Lira and Danny Davalos) – this dance was no joke with its constant tricks, lift after lift, and non-stop dancing. I think that AdéChiké did a great job and he kept up with Anya spectacularly well.

Jose and Courtney – Broadway (Mister Cellophane – Chicago) – this was a weird routine to me. I know it was meant to be very disconnected, but I almost wish that there was a little bit of eye contact. Just odd – Jose was good but didn’t dance fabulously. He needs to partner or be able to exude his personality in a more effective way.

Robert and Allison – Contemporary (Fix You – Coldplay) – not many songs make me cry, but this is one of the songs on that short list. Travis choreographed it and it is about his mother who just underwent a surgery of some sort. I hope I don’t cry. Started out a bit like the cancer dance from last season which was quite moving but I really got into the up tempo portion of the song came in. Robert is a fabulous dancer and Allison is a personal favorite. Great job and no tears!

Billy and Anya – Jive (Paradise by the Dashboard Light – Meatloaf) – Woo hoo – Louis Van Amstel from DWTS is choreographing this Jive. True confession time…I really don’t like Billy’s voice – it sort of makes me crazy. I have decided to hit the mute button when he speaks. I felt like Billy was slightly off for most of the dance and I think that they missed connections. Meh performance for me – although this is a great song. ** The judges and I totally disagree **

Kent and Neil – Broadway (Shoeless Joe From Hannibal, MO – Damn Yankees) – welcome back Tyce!! This looked it came straight from the “Great White Way” and I think that might be the best compliment about a “Broadway” routine. Kent and Neil really nailed this dance. One of my favorites so far.

Billy and Lauren – Jazz (Boogie Shoes – KC & The Sunshine Band) – this is definitely a Disco song, interesting that they are using it in this routine. Ah – magical shoes…I got it. Sloppy start and sloppy ending, but the middle was quite cute. I liked the opening shot that focused on the shoes, but I didn’t feel a real connection was made between Billy and Lauren. Lauren outdanced Billy in my opinion.

Jose and Dominic – B Boying (Battle for the Beat – District 78) – NappyTabs choreograph!! Legacy is there as well!! Nice! So this was the battle for Excalibur and Jose got the sword. I thought that this was a cool performance and it was great to see him perform a whole dance in his style. Much better than his first dance. Um…Dominic ran off stage rather phallically with that sword.

Kent and AdéChiké – Contemporary (You Only Disappear – Tom McRae) – Dee Casparay is back to choreograph this all-male Contemporary piece. I thought it was weird that the chair represented his Kent’s girlfriend, but I thought that it was a strong dance and they were both quite good. AdéChiké is comfortable in the strong, non-smiling roles and I think that helped Kent a lot in this dance.

Robert and Kathryn – Disco (Instant Replay – Dan Hartman) – Kathryn steps in for the ailing Ashley. Doriana is back! She is some kind of sadist the way she makes these dancers lift, toss, throw and spin all at the speed of light! Why does Robert look exactly like a hot, young Travolta?? Goodness! He is having such a ball out there and he is not missing a beat. Great way to end the night.

Top 3
Kent and Neil
Robert and Allison
AdéChiké and Kent

Bottom 3
Ashley
Billy
Jose

Did you all think that Billy was all that this week? I really did not love him. Let me know if I am wrong. Also – tell me what you think of the word dancestestants!!
