Tonight another couple will be sent packing. The show opens with a very stylized Jazz performance (Michael Bruni – Choreographer) to The Incredits (from The Incredibles). I like the slick look of the dancers and the crisp, fun movements and lifts. Cat notes that there was a lot of love last night (kissing and praise) but the bottom three couples will be up for elimination tonight. Lil C and Kristin Chenoweth are back on the panel for the results. Cat spoke with Kristin about her upcoming country album and they showed a clip from her video. It looks cute and the song seems to have a pop/country vibe that is the trend these days. I expect that it will do well.
Melanie and Marko, Ashley and Chris and Ryan and Ricky were the first three couples called up for their results. There are two Sonya performances in this group. Nigel was the only judge last night that actually stated that he was not a fan of the music or the spooky costumes of Ashley and Chris’ dance last night. It seems that America agreed with him – they are the first couple in the bottom tonight.
Jordan and Tadd, Sasha and Alexander and Miranda and Robert are in the second group. The weak links in this group are Miranda and Robert. Robert is a wonderful personality, but his partner seems to have very little. Miranda can dance like no other and Robert needs a lot of help – but together they are a bit of a mess. They are in the bottom.
Clarice and Jess and Caitlynn and Mitchell are the last to hear their fate. So it is Jean-Marc vs. Jean-Marc. Technically Jess and Clarice were spot on, but I found Caitlynn and Mitchell’s dance to be far more entertaining. Apparently America thinks I am an idiot! Caitlynn and Mitchell are in the bottom – they will be joining the others as they dance for their lives.
The first guest dancers tonight is a dance troupe that combine dancers with and without disabilities. Members from Axis Dance Company performed a brilliant pas de deux. It was stunning.
Ashley Rich – Contemporary (For You – David Ryan Harris) – she starts a little shaky, but this must be a surprise for her after last week’s praise. She got it together.
Chris Koehl – Hip Hop (You’re Gonna Make It – KJ-52 feat. Blanca Reyes) – Chris is a freaking superstar! The way he contorts and dances from his heart is amazing.
Miranda Maleski – Contemporary (Unthinkable – Maria Zouroudis) – I love contemporary dancers, but I often dislike their solos, do something other than a heel-stretch, PLEASE!
Robert Taylor, Jr. - Hip Hop (I Don’t Need It – Jamie Foxx) – Robert is an entertainer through and through and at 31 is the old man of the group, but he brings it whenever he walks on stage.
Caitlynn Lawson – Contemporary (It Doesn’t Hurt) – Katie Thompson – Caitlynn is great, but she pretty much does what the other girls did. I am not worried about her, she is great.
Mitchell Kelly – Contemporary (Rolling In The Deep – Adele) – great song, but the moves did not really go with the song. Hopefully they won’t penalize him for that.
While the judges deliberated we see dance champions Eric Luna and Georgia Ambarian perform some beautifully crazy Cirque de Soleil-style dance. It was hypnotic to watch.
The dancers return to the stage and Nigel announces that it was not a unanimous decision for the girls, he then quickly calls Miranda up and tells her she is out. The eliminated guy was a unanimous decision and after calling up each guy (Mitchell needs to connect and Chris needs to grow faster) he dispatches Robert. Robert gave a brilliant farewell speech and even culled the group into one last “WOO”! He is a classy guy.
Next week should be great – is your favorite still in the competition? Who are you looking forward to? Did they send the right people home tonight?
