Deejah’s Morning Mix for Monday, May 31, 2010
Looking for some new music to replace the same, tired old songs you listen to day in and day out? Each morning, Deejah Figueroa will post the first ten songs her iPod plays from her vast and eclectic music library!
- I Want You – Madonna f/Massive Attack (1995) – this is a cover of a Marvin Gaye song that appears on the Inner City Blues tribute album…this is a nice subtle take on the song
- Rock With You – Michael Jackson (1979) – I think that this may be the first time that MJ has appeared on my morning mix, surprising since he is all over my iPod. What needs to be said? The man knew how to make wonderful pop music
- Close To Me – The Cure (1985) – the groove on this song is just so smooth…ROBERT SMITH’s unique voice just floats along on this brilliant track
- Wonderful - India.Arie (2001) – this is a super crrative song. India weaves lines and phrases from STEVIE WONDER songs to create this song that pays tribute to him. Download it
- Spring Summer Feeling – Jill Scott (2004) – this song evokes this time of year perfectly…the romance and the heat and the cook-outs…it’s all wrapped up in this song
- The Sweetest Thing – Lauryn Hill (1997) – this song is from the LOVE JONES soundtrack…this is one of the best beginning to end sountracks out there and this is a track that shows off Lauryn’s voice wonderfully well
- Quelqu’un M’a Dit – Carla Bruni (2002) – the first lady of France released this song…it is nice, I heard it on a tv show…which one escapes me
- The Girl You Lost to Cocaine (Remix) – Sia (2008) – I love a remix!
- Astronauts – One Eskim0 (2009) – mellow jam – reminds me a bit of something Damien Rice would do
- Color – Mary J. Bliger (2009) – this song is from the movie PRECIOUS…this was a heavy film – but this MJB track gave us a sense of hope
