1. Yummy – Gwen Stefani (2006) – this is one of the most fun songs on the CD…I wish that it was released as a single
2. Your Song – Elton John (1970) – such a cheesy song, but a classic
3. Falling Slowly – Kris Allen (2009) – this is one of the few songs from Idol that I purchased. I love the Glen Hansard original from the movie ONCE…Kris does an admirable job with it
4. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Daft Punk (2001) – these creepy robot-head guys sure do make some awesome music!
5. I Can Transform Ya – Chris Brown (2009) – this was Chris’ first single after the domestic assault charges…I am sure that he was hoping that this song “transformed” his image. I must say that I really enjoy the track
6. Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears (1985) – I was a freshman in high school when this song dropped and I fell in love with it immediately, then in the 90s I never wanted to hear it again. The aughts have been good to Tears…they are back on my iPod with a vengeance
7. Reflection – Christina Aguilera (1998) – this is from the Mulan soundtrack and it was the first time that I had ever heard Christina…I was shocked that she was just a teenager! She has a powerful voice that still draws me in
8. Hey Mama – Black Eyed Peas (2004) – I have a mama, I am a mama – I just feel as if this song is for all of us mamas! Take a listen!
9. Hung Up – Madonna (2005) – in the summer of 2006 my new best friend and I took in the Confessions Tour! It was the first time I had ever seen Madge perform and I was blown away. At nearly 50 – she kicked the ass of performers half her age. Rock star status…my favorite part was when she had the whole audience chant the hook from this song “time goes by, so slowly”
10. Candy – Cameo (1987) – first, this song has one of the funkiest bass lines EVER! Second, how did lead singer Larry Blackmon get away with performing in a patent leather, candy apple red codpiece for all of these years? A truly great song

Cat lets us know that no one is injured this evening and she also lets us know that each dancer will dance three times! A special guest on the judging dais is Toni Redpath.

Not too much time for banter this week…we go directly to the picks.

Kent and Anya – Cha Cha Cha (My First Kiss – 3OH!3 f/Ke$ha) – This is Kent’s 2nd Cha Cha – so the expectations are high for him. They are choreographing to his strengths with the young lady population. Perfect song – let’s see what they do with it. I thought that there was a lot of screen mugging, there was a kiss in the middle of the dance where Kent stared directly into the camera and not at Anya. Cute performance, he brought it for the most part.

Robert and Kathryn – Contemporary (Heaven Is A Place on Earth – Katie Thompson) – The story is about a couple sharing their last moments together before going off to war. I was wondering if this was a cover of the Belinda Carlisle song and indeed it is, in a much slower presentation. This is a brilliant dance and was wonderfully performed. When Robert tosses Kathryn over his shoulder in a very inventive lift – I was speechless. And look at Stacey Tookey giving us a twist – it is Kathryn that is going off to war, not Robert.

Jose Ruiz- B Boying (Giant Squid – RJD2) – solo

AdéChiké and Courtney – Jazz (Manteca – Dizzy Gillespie) – “Manteca” means lard in Spanish…I hope this is not a fatty dance! Sorry – I suck at puns! I love Dizzy Gillespie music and I thought that they performed quite well with what Tyce gave them. The song had an Afro-Cubano beat, and AdéChiké worked in some of that. I hope that he does not get dinged for that as he has in the past.

Lauren Froderman – Contemporary ((You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman – Aretha Franklin) – solo

Jose and Comfort – Hip Hop (Try A Little Tenderness – Otis Redding) – Not a traditional song for a hip hop routine, but these new choreographers (Marty Kudelka and Dana Wilson) don’t seem too traditional…this song reminds me of Ducky Dale (Jon Cryer) dancing in the record shop in PRETTY IN PINK – let’s see if these two can erase this memory. Wow – I think that this is my favorite performance of Jose’s…the ticking that Comfort did at the beginning draws you in and the dancing kept me in it. Ducky still rules this song, but this was a close 2nd.

Billy Bell – Contemporary (Lights Go Down – Telepathe) – solo

Kent Boyd – Contemporary (A Song For You – Elliot Yamin) – solo

Lauren and Allison – Broadway (Who’s Got the Pain – Damn Yankees) – The first all girl dance of the season…Lauren is the only female left, so it stands to reason that it would happen eventually. Let’s see what they do with Tyce’s choreography. Tyce loves Fosse and in the movie version of DAMN YANKEES Fosse actually performed this exact dance with Gwen Verdon. I must say that I did not love this performance and I don’t feel that it showcased Lauren or Allison well. The judges disagree with me…

Robert Roldan – Contemporary (A Beautiful Mess – Jason Mraz) – solo

** Love that TARGET is using “Free to Be You and Me” for their back to school ads…super cute and takes me back to 6th grade **

Billy and Ade – Mad World (Michael Andrews f/ Gary Jules) – This is becoming one of the most covered songs ever…I wish someone would dance to the original (rant over). Another Stacey Tookey dance – affluence and homelessness. This was a stunning performance. I could not keep my eyes off of the screen. Two for two for Ms. Tookey this evening. I love that she incorporated lifts and they were still very masculine, showing strength and adding such depth to the piece.

AdéChiké Torbert – Contemporary (Pretty Wings – Maxwell) – solo

Kent and Jose – Broadway (From This Moment On from Kiss Me Kate) – Spencer Liff is the choreographer…glad to see so many new choreographers this season. Ugh – Kent is the younger one in this dance – I am hoping that he doesn’t overuse that face and creep the audience out! Kent has a Gene Kelley-ish vibe to him. He would be great on Broadway if he wanted to pursue that avenue. Jose kept up…but my eyes never strayed to far from Kent during this one.

Lauren and AdéChiké – Foxtrot (Fever – Beyonce) – I don’t believe that they have partnered before. This was a good performance. I thought that there were some hot moments, but not full on blazing fire kind of chemistry. The lifts that Jean-Marc and France threw in here were pretty great and AdéChiké handled them with finesse and grace. Good job to both of them.

Billy and Robert – Bollywood (Ganesh from Bombay Dreams) – I heart Nakul and his choreography…he is genius. This is a very athletic dance and I think that Robert was stronger in this performance. He was much more masculine than Billy was, but they both performed brilliantly.

It was a good night tonight – I feel like AdéChiké and Jose may go home tomorrow night. I won’t miss Jose, but I am very happy with AdéChiké’s growth. Am I just projecting or do you agree with me? Great choreography tonight but where is Miss Mary Murphy? We will be down to four dancetestants next week – when is she going to show up?

1. I’ve Fallen In Love With You – Joss Stone (2003) – I am not going to lie, when I first heard Joss sing – I thought she was a black woman! When I saw that she was a teenager from the UK I was stunned. She performs just as good live and she does on her CDs
2. Suddenly I See – KT Tunstall (2004) – I am so shocked that this song was released 6 years ago. It seems like a more recent hit than that. This is a fun song to sing along with
3. September – Earth, Wind and Fire (1978) – this is my mother’s favorite song and I love it as well! Try not to sing along – IMPOSSIBLE
4. Sign O’ The Times – Prince (1987) – this track is from my favorite beginning to end Prince album! Buy the whole album and listen to what I am talking about
5. How Sweet It Is – Michael Buble (2005) – this is a great cover of an R&B classic
6. When I Come Around – Green Day (1995) – the scruffy punk rock kids were doing their thing on this track! It is still a favorite
7. Crack a Bottle – Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent (2009) – this is an offensive and ridiculous song – but I glom on to it whenever I hear it. Eminem has a way of making me ignore his misogyny and just bob my head to the beat…there has to be some genius in that
8. Say Somethin’ – Mariah Carey f/ Snoop (2005) – Mimi does a great job on this song – but it is Snoop that is the standout to me!
9. The Turn – M.I.A. (2007) – one of the hottest female MCs in the game…sick beats with thought-provoking lyrics, cannot beat that
10. Doo Wop (That Thing) (1998) – come back Lauryn, we miss you! Supreme diva MC of hip hop and soul. There are rumors floating around that she is recording some stuff…she has also popped up at a few music festivals singing new music…fingers and toes crossed

At 7 p.m. the Warner Bros. Daffy Duck cartoon short “The Great Piggy Bank Robbery” (1946) and the episode “Doom Ship” from the 1941 serial “Adventures of Captain Marvel” will be screened as part of the evening’s pre-feature program.

“Oscar Noir” is a summer-long series featuring 15 film noir classics from the 1940s, all of which were nominated in writing categories. 1. You’re My Best Friend – Queen (1975) – this is a fabulous song and I have actually made it the ringtone for my best friends! I know who’s calling when I hear this song. Freddie’s voice is stunning
2. Who Says – John Mayer (2009) – John is controversial for his statements about former lovers and other things that he should keep to himself, but this is a wonderful song. His voice flows like honey
3. The New Workout Plan – Kanye West (2004) – this track has a fresh beat and it is funny – check it out
4. The Ditty – Paperboy (1993) – this is an old school jam that I recently heard on XM…I immediately downloaded it as it took me back to my college days
5. We Belong Together – Mariah Carey (2005) – I love the sappy sentimentality of this song
6. The Whole World – OutKast (2001) – great track with a seriously sick through line…hard not to tap your  toes and shake your butt to this song
7. Don’t Rain On My Parade – Barbra Streisand (1964) – I love divas young and old! This is a diva singing this song and her delivery was spot on. Lea Michele’s performance of this song on GLEE was perfection – a diva in the making
8. Visions – Stevie Wonder (1973) – another great track from this perfect album INNERVISIONS
9. 2 The Sky – Robin Thicke (2006) – he moans and cajoles his way through this song and I am left wanting more every time I hear it
10. Why Can’t I Be You? – The Cure (1987) – who has never asked this question? If you say that you haven’t – I don’t believe you! Check out this track
