This week the contestants will each sing 3 songs. One chosen by the judges, one they choose and one chosen by Jimmy Iovine.

AMERICAN IDOL: Joshua Ledet performs in front of the judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, May 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

Joshua Ledet is up first with the judges choice I’d Rather Be Blind - Etta James. I love when Josh sings these torchy type of songs. He gets right in the pocket and makes it his own. I love that he reigns in the melodrama for the majority of the song, saving the whooping and hollering for the end of the song. I like that he built to that strong finish.

*Product placement note – a Kraft commercial following Joshua’s performance featured the Etta James song he just sang…interesting. I can’t imagine that was coincidental. *

Jessica Sanchez is next and Jennifer says they chose Mariah Carey’s My All because there is a tenderness in the song that JLo thinks she will kill. Let’s see if she kills it. I think this is the first Mariah song she has performed in this competition. This song is super tough to sing (I know – I tried and failed one time at karaoke) it requires her to work a lot in her lower register – which is not that strong. She sounds out of breath in the verses, but recovers well in the chorus. This was a nice performance – though not a showstopper. I am sure she has a showstopper in her tonight, so I’m not worried.

AMERICAN IDOL: Phillip Phillips performs in front of the judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, May 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

Phillip Phillips – the judges choose Beggin’ by Madcon. I really like this song and I am interested in seeing what Phillip does with it. I have a feeling that odd Phillip dance may show up. He slowed this down considerably, but I dig the vibe that he brought to it. Though there was no full out dancing, there was definitely some foot shuffling. Great performance.

Next up the contestants choose their own songs. Each contestant got to go home last week – they each discuss their visits.

Joshua Ledet chooses John Lennon’s Imagine. His interpretation of the song is sweet. He makes a few tweaks with the melody, but with so many other Idol contestants performing this song in the past – I think it was a good idea. This was another solid performance! I wonder if Jimmy is going to choose a more contemporary song for him to sing.

Jessica Sanchez goes home, just a helicopter ride away from Hollywood. She chooses to sing I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing (Aerosmith). Wow – this is a bold choice with Steven sitting there staring at her. Good for her. Even though this is an easier song to see than the Mariah song the judges chose for her, I am not sure it had the same impact and I don’t know if it was the best song choice for her. I am sure the judges will disagree with me.

AMERICAN IDOL: Jessica Sanchez performs in front of the judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, May 16 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

Phillip Phillips picks Disease by Matchbook 20. I need to apologize to my pal Dori (a HUGE Rob Thomas fan) because I fear I have never heard this song before. I really like his vibe and although I don’t know the song – he had a great delivery. I really like the lady sax player that they have incorporated this season. She’s bringing sax(y) back! Sorry! She does add a nice depth to most of the songs she accompanies.

Final round and Jimmy Iovine is choosing the songs for the contestants. He chose No More Drama (Mary J. Blige) for Joshua Ledet. Jimmy chose this because it has elements of R&B and gospel. Jimmy wants him, “to go off at the end of this song.” Let’s see what he does with it. I think he is going to work the hell out of this song. He has this constant bounce going on – like he can barely contain his energy and when he comes out of his jacket and rips out his ear buds, you know he is feeling it. Thy show his buddy Hollie Cavanagh in the audience and she and Skylar are definitely feeling it. Great performance.

Jimmy chooses I’ll Be There (Jackson 5) for Jessica Sanchez. He chose it because the song would appeal to an older audience but also highlights her youth. This song is great because it really shows off her range. It is a fun song to sing and there aren’t many people who don’t know this one. This was another solid performance but she did not have the stand out moment that I thought she would this evening.

Phillip Phillips – We’ve Got Tonight (Bob Seger). Jimmy chose this to appeal to Phillip’s female and male fans. This is a wonderful song (I especially like the Kenny Rogers/Sheena Easton version) and I think Phillip will kill it. His version is subtle and understated and he is right in the pocket. I am fairly certain this performance has a position locked for him in the finale.

Everyone was solid tonight, but I think that Joshua and Phillip out-shined Miss Sanchez. I think tonight was her last night. Let’s see how America votes. What do you all think?

Lisa Marie Presley and Adam Lambert will perform on tomorrow night’s elimination show.

Adam Yauch, one of the three members of the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 47. Yauch, known as MCA, had been receiving treatment for cancer of the salivary glands since 2009.

MCA has had to sit out several concerts and was not able to perform when the Beasties were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. The group has not performed live since 2009 and they were not able to appear in any of the videos for their latest album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2 due to Yauch’s illness.

The Beastie Boys were literally the band of my youth. I was 15 years old when License To Ill was released. When everyone was oohing and ahing over (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party), I was flipping out over Paul Revere. MCA’s voice cut through all of the tracks and his solid producing and writing fingerprints touched everything the Beasties created. This man will be missed as a strong activist voice and as the voice of a hip hop generation.

On Saturday, May 5, HBO will air the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony honoring the group, who just became the third rap group to enter the Hall, after Run-D.M.C. (2009) and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (2007).

RIP Adam – you will be missed.

In a tribute to the late Whitney Houston – the kids of Glee prepare for graduation and what comes next. The episode opens on Mercedes singing How Will I Know…she is joined by Kurt, Santana, and Rachel as they place photos of mourning for Whitney in their and lockers. The song ends with the in glam gear on the stage. This was a wonderful interpretation of the song. Downloading it now!

The kids are taking the death of Whitney pretty hard – so this week’s lesson is for the kids to express what is really going on with them in preparing to leave high school.

Kurt is trying to pick the perfect song for the Whitney assignment as well as the NYADA audition. He meets a kid in the music store named Chandler who is very enthusiastic and will be attending NYU. He asked Kurt for his number…cut to Brittany singing I Want To Dance With Somebody - it turns into a duet with Santana. With so many Whitney songs to choose from – I have a feeling that this episode may be light on actual story but heavy with music! Quinn is back in this episode and still in her wheelchair.

Joe approaches Quinn and asks her about her therapy. She is down because there does not appear to be any improvement in her condition. Joe offers to go with her to her next appointment so that it would be “less depressing” and he says being a Christian is more than talk. Will tells Emma that he wants to move the wedding up from December to May. Favorite quote of the night comes from Emma when she questions Will about the date change…”is this about S-E-X”?

Apparently Kurt did give up the digits to Chandler and they have been texting…he lets Rachel know about it and though she thinks it’s cute, she tells him that if he can’t share them with Blaine he should be concerned.

Joe and Quinn sing Saving All My Love For You. This is one of my top 3 favorite Whitney songs. I love the their voice meld on this song. Feels like another download. Their singing scene is cut with scenes of Quinn at therapy with Joe there by her side. It looks like something might be going on – whoever knows on Glee.

GLEE: Santana (Naya Rivera, L) and Rachel (Lea Michele, R) perform in the "Dance With Somebody" episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 24 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2012 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Adam Rose/FOX

This episode quickly moves from one of my favorite songs to one of my least favorites…Santana and Rachel sing So Emotional. During the performance, Kurt is focused on his phone and the texts he is receiving from Chandler. Blaine is visibly distressed. In the girls bathroom the ladies of Glee are applying lipstick and fixing their hair and gossiping. They tease Quinn about the chemistry between her and Joe. She says that he is grossed out about the fact she is in a wheelchair, she is convinced that is the reason he did not kiss her. I suspect that it is because he is Christian not because Quinn is in a wheelchair.

Joe comes to talk to Sam about his feelings about Quinn. They have a really strong Christian to Christian conversation about being old school (no sex before marriage, no impure thoughts) vs. new school (sex with someone you care about and doing good things for others). Joe has some things to think about because he is definitely feeling something for Quinn.

While Kurt and Blaine get ready for the Being Bobby Brown marathon Blaine sees Kurt’s phone and sees all of the messages from Chandler. Blaine says that Kurt cheated on him, Kurt disagrees. Kurt defends himself by saying Blaine is an Alpha Gay and Kurt has taken a back seat to Blaine, so of course he liked it when someone paid attention to him. In class Blaine sings a techno(ish) version of It’s Not Right But It’s Okay. The message of this song clearly states that the cheater needs to get out. Pretty strong words.

Rachel and Santana have a coming together, with 42 days left in the school they decide to be friends. Kurt and Burt have a talk about Kurt’s impending departure for college. Burt is sad about Kurt leaving and he does not want to go. Kurt sings I Have Nothing for his assignment. Blaine is moved and so am I! We have not heard Kurt shine on a song in a long time. His countertenor (equivalent to a female mezzo-soprano) is superb and he only had to move to falsetto on a couple of notes. Pure joy.

Puck gives gifts to his Glee guys to make sure they remember all of the bro-ness they had together and for forgiving him “for sleeping with all of your women”. Kurt and Blaine go to Emma for couples counseling. Blaine is ultimately upset because all Kurt seems to think about is NYADA and he forgets that he is leaving Blaine behind in Lima. They work out some issues.

Will and Emma come to the crux of the situation of the wedding date change. Will does not want them to leave, that is why he is pushing for the wedding to be sooner rather than later. He is afraid that they won’t come back for the wedding.

Quinn and Joe discuss their feelings for one another and they decide to try something new. The kids had the option to blow off practice but it seems they all want to hang out together as opposed to doing their own thing. The gather in the gym to sing My Love is Your Love.

Solid episode, though I wish there was more story there. The music was some of the best of the season. Next week’s episode is about the NYADA auditions and it looks as if Coach Beiste is returning with an issue that requires the help from Sue and Roz. Also Whoopi Goldberg makes a guest appearance!

No more second chances. No more safety nets. Tonight, someone must go home. So – who is it going to be? Will Hollie and Elise be back in the Bottom Three or will the group from last week be there again? Last night the contestants received 53 million votes – the most votes received so far this season.

Kris Allen and LMFAO will be here to perform and the Top 7 kick off the evening with Dancing In The Sreets (Martha & The Vandellas).

First up are Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh. Jimmy says that Joshua was in his sweet spot and that unfortunately Hollie is going to have a long row to hoe. Joshua is safe, Hollie goes back to the Bottom 3.

Before Kris Allen (Season Eight) sings his new single Vision of Love, Season 5 winner of Idol announces, “I’m going to be doing Vegas this summer…come see me!” OK – there is your Taylor Hicks update. This is the second or third time I have heard this song and I like it more and more each time I hear it. Good job Kris.

Skylar Laine and Elise Testone are up next. Jimmy says, “I think Skylar delivered; I think Elise fell flat.” I love Jimmy’s to the point nature. The man is a music mogul for a reason. Elise is back in the Bottom 3 and Skylar is safe. Hollie and Elise should buy property on those chairs!

Before LMFAO performs, Ryan narrates a tribute sequence to Dick Clark. He says that LMFAO would have been perfect for American Bandstand. They come on the stage and sing “Sorry For Party Rocking”

Either Colton Dixon, Phillip Phillips or Jessica Sanchez will be in tonight’s Bottom Three. I think that Jessica is probably safe and that one of the boys will be in the Bottom 3. Jimmy says he realizes that Jessica is singing songs that are too old for her. I have to agree with Jimmy. He feels that Phillip was the winner when compared to Colton. I loved Phillip’s first song was not crazy about the second, but I didn’t care for either of Colton’s performances so again I will have to side with Jimmy on this one. Jessica is safe and Colton ends up in the Bottom 3, it is his first time in that position.

I have to say that I am ready for Hollie to go home so she is the person I hope America sends home. Elise is safe and it is down to Colton and Hollie. The lights dim and Ryan announces that Colton’s journey has ended. When Ryan asked him what he thinks happened, Colton says, ”You know, I need to apologize, I wasn’t myself last night, and I get it. I appreciate what you told me last night. I’ll take that when I’m making a record.” Good for him. He definitely has an audience and I think he will be just fine.

After the debacle that was last week, all seven contestants are back to perform tonight. They will be singing 2 songs each. One song from “now” (2000 – 2012) and a soul standard from “then”. Appropriately, Ryan opens the show with a shout out to Dick Clark who passed away earlier today at the age of 82. Then he moves on to the performances…there will be 14 of them tonight (the most for an episode).

Hollie Cavanagh (Rolling in the Deep) Adele – it looks like Jimmy is the only mentor this week. Jimmy asks her how come she is great in rehearsals and then falls apart when she is on the stage. He told her that she has to overcome the nerves. The open with no accompaniment was great. It seems that she was on her note throughout the song and it seems like she handled her nerves fairly well. It was one of her better performances.

Colton Dixon (Bad Romance) Lady Gaga – Colton continues with the gender-bending (song wise) of the season. His sis Schyler is in the audience and she says it is surreal to see him on stage. Jimmy says he is missing the rock element from Colton. He needs to rock this song and make sure the arrangement is just so. Ugh – I am not sure I love the punk type arrangement he went with, but his voice cuts through the noise fairly well. It is an interesting performance. He is continuing to create the brand that is Colton.

Elise Testone (No One) Alicia Keys – I love this song and I realize that not a lot of people sing Alicia on this show. She has a heck of a range and she is tough to sing, but Elise has amazing and mature pipes that should be able to handle this song nicely. I love the way she opens this song. Her performance of it is spot on. I was slightly distracted by the flowing material of her dress – it caught my eye as I was typing. Too much air machine – but she sang this song wonderfully well.

Phillip Phillips (U Got it Bad) Usher – I am COMPLETELY shocked by this song choice. Jimmy asks Phillip about his strategy for tonight. Phillip says he wants to make it intimate. OK – I am actually captured by Phillip’s version of this Usher track. I am freaking out about how good it is. The guitar, the vibe and his voice make it a memorable performance. This one will be downloaded…one of the handful that I have downloaded this season. Wonderful performance.

Jessica Sanchez (Fallin’) Alicia Keys – wow, another Alicia song tonight. Jessica definitely has the chops to pull this one off. She has to be rattled from the outcome of last week, but this girl is a professional and I am sure she will work it out. Jimmy wants her to spiritually have fun with the song. I think she is suffering from what I pointed out a few weeks ago…she is so professional at 16-years-old that this competition seems like a walk in the park for her. She needs to show some vulnerability. She sounds fantastic but I didn’t feel any of the spiritual fun Jimmy spoke about.

AMERICAN IDOL: Skylar Laine performs on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, April 18 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

Skylar Laine (Born This Way) Lady Gaga – hmm…I am not sure about this song choice. Jimmy was happy to see Skylar not in the bottom 3 last week. Ah – she is doing the country mix that Gaga did and she is starting with the bridge, per Jimmy’s suggestion. OK – I made a mistake – this is the perfect song for her to sing. And if you are voting Gaga to Gaga, Skylar beats Colton hands down. I love the passion this young lady brings to everything she sings. I think that is what Jessica is missing (Hollie too). This was a super hot performance.

Joshua Ledet (I Believe) Fantasia – this was Fantasia’s coronation song and it is in his wheelhouse. He has an amazing voice – but he doesn’t take to many risks as far as song choice goes. That may be why America is not responding to him…who knows? The boy can sing and it’s a singing competition and definitely brings it. The emotion he brings to a song is the thing that hooks me every time. Beautiful performance.

Hollie Cavanagh (Son of a Preacher Man) Dusty Springfield – Hollie is a big football fan (soccer) and the Liverpool Football Club send a note to wish her good luck. She went back to her pitchy ways in this performance. It is so weird…I wish she could control her nerves. Maybe she will get there with age. This performance was meh. Round 1 was better for her. The judges totally disagree with me.

Colton Dixon (September) Earth, Wind & Fire – I don’t love this arrangement, but the chorus is nice. Sometimes you can make a song too different from the original. I am afraid that is what he did to this tune and it was not better for it. Not a favorite.

Elise Testone (Let’s Get It On) Marvin Gaye – I am not sure if a woman has ever performed Marvin on Idol! Good for her. Her raspy voice is ideal for this song. She really brings the sexy and sultry to the tune when she sings and stops with the “ow baby”s. When she gets to the bridge she hits her stride. This was a great night for Elise.

Phillip Phillips (In The Midnight Hour) Wilson Pickett – this is a perfectly fine performance, but it did not move me. It felt a bit like karaoke. His round one was the better of the two for me.

Jessica Sanchez (Try A Little Tenderness) Otis Redding – this is a big song and I think it may be a little too big for even Miss Sanchez. She’s missing the restraint that she brought in the first round. It feels as if she is shouting and not singing. Meh.

Skylar Laine (Heard It Through The Grapevine) CCR or Gladys Knight or Marvin Gaye – its sounds most like Gladys’ version, which is actually my favorite of the three versions I listed. She also sounds like she is shouting her way through this song. This is a fun song – but not a great song choice for Skylar.

Joshua Ledet (A Change is Gonna Come) Sam Cooke – another ballad? I was hoping for something uptempo, like some Smokey Robinson…ah well. He is bringing the full range of emotion to this song. Interestingly – he sounds a bit like Otis Redding on this song. He brought it starting with the first note all the way to the last note.

Tonight was a long one! Who is on top? Who’s going home and will it be one singer or two?

Tomorrow night Kris Allen (Season 8 winner) and LMFAO will perform on the elimination show.

Bringing disco to the 21st century – if anyne can do it, it’s the producers of Glee.

The kids apparently have no direction and with graduation just around the corner – that is apparently a problem. Open on Blaine, Mike Chang and Brittany perform “You Should Be Dancing” (Bee Gees) – they are going to try to bring “vintage” Nationals. Will is concerned that at three of his seniors (Finn, Santana and Mercedes) have no direction or vision for their future. He is going to try to motivate them by using the soundtrack

GLEE: Wade ("The Glee Project" finalist Alex Newell, L) confides in Kurt (Chris Colfer, R) in the "Saturday Night Glee-ver" episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 17 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2012 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Adam Rose/FOX

Alex Newell (one of the top 4 finalists from The Glee Project) is introduced as Wade Adams a competitor from Vocal Adrenaline. Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff) is back as the coach and apparently he is of course his ever mean self. Wade loves Kurt and Mercedes and comes to them for advice. He is picked on at his school and he retreats in his imagination and becomes Unique, a female. He wants to go on stage in a dress and heels and asks Mercedes and Kurt what they would do.

Sue and Will propose a dance-off to get the kids to want to participate in Saturday Night Fever week. They all work it out to Shu singing “Night Fever” they even do a version of The Hustle. Sue and Shu choose Mercedes, Santana and Finn as the dance-off winners…surprise, surprise. The winner gets an “authentic” replica of Travolta’s suit from the movie. Sue is having Becky sew the suit.

Shu gives the “winners” a new assignment. They have to perform a song from SNF and then share their hopes for the future. Mercedes is really irritated about the assignment. She says she has a dream, but she doesn’t know how to achieve it. She wants to be the next Mariah, Whitney and Aretha. She performs “Disco Inferno” with a dance assist from Santana and Brittany. Sam records the performance (he of course still has eyes for her). Mercedes says that her parents don’t support her dream and she is scared to death to move across the country to LA hoping for a record contract.

Rachel and Finn are still arguing and Puck still wants Finn to go with him to LA. Finn lets him know he’s not going. Puck tells him to find the right thing for him and make it something big.

I love that Sue, inappropriately, calls Kurt and Mercedes Porcelain and Weezie. She wants them to tell Wade to perform as Unique so that Vocal Adrenaline will lose.

Santana chooses to sing “If I Can’t Have You” – she rocks an amazing jumpsuit as she sings to Brittany. She says that her aspiration is fame. Will thought she was singing about marriage equality, he was sadly disappointed. Rachel and Finn make up. Rachel says they don’t have to go to New York if Finn doesn’t want to. She wants to help him find his dream. She sings “How Deep Is Your Love”. This episode is making me want to download the original soundtrack as well as a few of the songs from the episode. After meeting with Emma Finn receives lots of ideas about school. He leaves the office letting her think he is going to choose a school but he promptly throws all of the brochures away.

Brittany gives Santana what she wants…she spliced their sex tape with a video of Lord Tubbington doing household chores and posted it on the internet! All of Brittany’s favorite famous people got famous by making a sex tape. Logical Brittany thinking.

Will calls Finn out for throwing away the college brochures. Finn rages and says that he just wants to be young forever. Will says that he is afraid pf saying what his true dream is and makes him watch “Saturday Night Fever”. Meanwhile Kurt and Mercedes go to Carmel High to talk Wade out of going on stage in a dress. He refuses and performs “Boogie Shoes” in a great dress and 4 inch heels. He sang the hell out of it as well.

Finn chooses “More Than A Woman”…the men had to work their falsetto’s this week. It is a group dance number featuring all of the couples (Santana/Brittany, Kurt/Blaine, Tina/Mike and Finn/Rachel). He tells her that he figured out what he wants to do with his future. He wants to move to New York and he wants to go to the “Inside the Actor’s Studio” school. He wants to be an actor and he wants to be a great man for Rachel. Aww…that is a lovely sentiment and it was not super cheese filled. Caring on with the love Sam posted Mercedes’ “Disco Inferno” video on YouTube. Sam lets her know that he believes in her and what she can become. They kiss – so it looks as if they are back together for the remainder of the season.

Sue and Brittany help Santana get accepted to the University of Kentucky on a full scholarship (cheer). She is not 100% sure if that is she wants to do but she likes that there is an option. The final group number of “Stayin’ Alive” was great.

Overall this was a pretty good episode. It was definitely a plot mover. Noticeably absent was Quinn, I think I only saw her in one scene. But great songs were performed and we still were able to meet a new character. Next week is the Whitney Houston tribute episode…the trailer looked moving. It’s definitely something to look forward to.

Songs performed

In the wackiest Bottom 3 since Season Three (when Jennifer Hudson was unceremoniously sent home), we found Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez and Elise Testone in the bottom spots! These three are arguably some of the best singers in this competition. Then – in an even crazier twist, Joshua and Elise are told they are safe – leaving Jessica Sanchez to sing for her life.

“I’ve never seen this happen,” an irate Randy said of having two frontrunners – Jessica and Joshua – in the bottom with Elise. “This is a ridiculous bottom three … [America] got it wrong tonight, so wrong.”

AMERICAN IDOL: Jessica Sanchez performs in front of the Judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing Wednesday, April 11 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
He was even more irritated when Jessica was announced to be the contestant with the lowest number of votes. While Jessica performed her last-chance song, the judges stormed the stage and stopped her. Jennifer grabbed her microphone yelling, “give me that mic…you ain’t going home! Go sit down!” It was some of the strangest stuff I have EVER seen on Idol but I have to agree with Randy – America got it wrong. The judges used their save on Jessica so all seven will be back next week. Not sure if two people will be eliminated next week (that is usually the way it works) but, it is going to be a very, very tough week.

What do you think? Did America get it wrong?

After a fairly long hiatus that ended with a texting nightmare of a cliffhanger, Glee is finally back. In the first minutes of the episode we find out that Quinn has a compressed spine and has to be in a wheelchair. Apparently she is beginning to have feeling in her toes and feels as if she will be up and performing by Nationals. She and Artie perform I’m Still Standing (Elton John) and she puts on a overly brave face (it seems). Rachel and Finn did not get married and they are postponing it.

Olympic swimming bronze medalist, Roz Washinton (Nene Leakes) returns and is made the co-captain of the Cheerios, much to Sue’s dismay. Sue takes her wrath out on the Glee club Booty Camp. She is their new dance coach!

Blaine’s brother, Cooper Anderson (Matt Bomer) comes to town for a visit and it turns out he is a well-known commercial pitchman for freecreditratingtoday.com and he is apparently kind of a big deal. Blaine seems to shrink in his shadow.

While planning senior ditch day, Rachel freaks out and breaks down. She feels guilty that Quinn was on the way to her wedding when the accident happened. Quinn told her that she is ok and she does not need to feel bad. Again – this super peppy Quinn makes me nervous and I am keeping my eyes open for a mental break! Quinn suggests that they go to Six Flags for Senior Ditch Day. The gang agrees. Puck lets Finn know that he will be moving to California after graduation to expand his pool cleaning business and he wants Finn to come along to be his business partner. Finn declines but does say that he will go with Puck to fix a client’s broken Jacuzzi motor. Apparently she is attractive and wears tube tops.

Sue brings in Cooper Anderson to show the Glee class what it means to perform. He will be teaching a master class on acting. Blaine and Cooper do a duet of Hungry Like The Duet/Rio (Duran Duran). Matt Bomer really shines in this role and he is very believable as Blaine’s brother. Blaine is suffering from classic little brother syndrome – but his brother acerbates the situation. After their performance Cooper says, “Standing O, I was really good in that number.” Sad face.

Blaine confronts his brother, telling him that he criticizes him about everything. Cooper apologizes (half-assedly) and says he is back in town so that he can get to know his little brother better. At “Cooper Anderson Acting Master Class” he lays down the following rules:

Don’t go to college (it’s a waste of time)

Don’t go to New York (theatre is lame and Broadway is dead)

Real actors do TV and film – Hollywood is where it is at

Have a dynamic headshot

Ask the tough questions

The key to a dramatic scene is pointing

The secret to great acting is ignoring what the other actor is doing

He is a little insane and the class all seem to be drinking the Kool-Aid. Blaine and Cooper have a bit of an argument in class and Coop blows it off as a acting activity. Blaine leaves the class.

Sue goes to her doctor appointment to determine the sex of her baby. Will and Emma go with her for moral support. It is determined that she is having a girl – but that the amniocentesis came back showing the baby may have some abnormalities.

GLEE: Rachel (Lea Michele, L), Rory (Damian McGinty, C) and Finn (Cory Monteith, R) go to an amusement park for senior ditch day in "Big Brother," the Spring Premiere episode of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 10 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. ©2012 Fox Broadcasting Co. Cr: Jordin Althaus/FOX

After Cooper tells Blaine to skip Senior Ditch Day so that he could run lines with him, Blaine snaps and sings Xtina’s Fighter. Quinn and Artie are going to do their own thing for Ditch Day – as Six Flags is a tough place for people who are newly in a wheelchair. He takes her to a skate park where all of the patrons are in wheelchairs or are disabled. He calls it, “Crip Skip”. All Ditch Day activities are mashed up in a montage with Quinn and Artie singing Up, Up, Up by Givers. Everyone has a great day – but Artie calls Quinn out on her false happy. He told her she needs to face the reality that she may be permanently paralyzed. She does not want to hear that.

Booty Camp gets an apology from Sue (although it was pretty sideways). She promises to be nicer if they promise to work harder. Teen Jesus aka Joe Hart (Samuel Larsen – co-winner of The Glee Project) also joins Glee club at Quinn’s insistence.

Blaine gets to finally confront his brother and they come to an understanding. Blaine sings Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know. Rachel and Finn have a bit of disagreement regarding where they are going to go after graduation. Finn suggests California and Rachel freaks out.

How was Glee? This was a solid return to the fray. Next week they take it to the disco!

Songs performed in this episode:

I’m Still Standing (Elton John) – Quinn/Artie

Hungry Like The Duet/Rio (Duran Duran) – Blaine/Cooper

Fighter (Christina Aguilera) – Blaine

Up, Up, Up (Givers) – Quinn/Artie

Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye) – Blaine

I’m not sure who’s going home – but judging from the feedback from some of my Idol lovin friends, they don’t love DeAndre. These friends of mine tend to represent the tastes of America and I am hoping they are wrong – but, they could be right.

As they head to the first break, they show a sneak peek of J Lo’s new video for Dance Again. It is pretty steamy and features an awful lot of camera time of her boyfriend Casper Smart – one of the dancers.

Tonight’s Ford video features the contestants on a scavenger hunt singing to Alright (Supergrass). Results will be handled according to last night’s duets, starting with Jessica Sanchez and Joshua Ledet. I can’t imagine either of these kids being in jeopardy. Joshua is not feeling well and is fighting off the feeling of passing out. Jimmy Iovine thinks that Joshua was a little over-affected at the beginning but then he pulled it back in and is in the sweet spot. He says that these two are the main competition on the show and he says that Joshua won because he chose a better song. Both are safe.

The Wanted perform Glad You Came. Boy bands are back, it seems. Especially British boy bands. My daughter perked up when these kids performed.

Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon sang Islands in the Stream. I thought they both had fairly strong performances, but Skylar was the stronger one for me. It looks as if Jimmy agrees with me. He said that Skylar could win the whole thing if she continues to sing like she did on Wednesday. I don’t know if I would go that far – but she was the better of the two. Jimmy thought Colton was good, not great. Before announcing which one was in the bottom, Ryan calls up DeAndre Brackensick and Hollie Cavanagh. Jimmy called Hollie’s song a bad high school performance and said that she will likely be fighting DeAndre for the spot to go home. DeAndre is in the bottom three. Colton is safe. Hollie goes to the bottom with DeAndre and Skylar is safe.

Kellie Pickler (Season 5) returns to the show to sing her new single, Where’s Tammy Wynette. Kellie predicts that all of the Top 10 will be getting record deals.

Either Elise Testone or Phillip Phillips will fill out tonight’s bottom three. I think Elise was a better performer last night, but I seem to be strongly in the minority where this is concerned. Jimmy says that Phillip’s performance last night was the worst of the entire show. He thinks Elise chose the absolutely right song but says she did not bring it when she got to the stage. Phillip and his super cocky attitude are safe. Hollie is also safe. Boo.

DeAndre is the one in danger of going home. The judges say America didn’t get it right. DeAndre chooses to sing Master Blaster (Stevie Wonder). I love that as Ryan was telling him about what was going down – DeAndre was telling his sister to stop crying. The judges choose not to save him. Jennifer basically tells him that she voted to save him and Steven and Randy did not. I really enjoy DeAndre and the vibe he brought to the show. I’ll miss him.
